Keith is as good as it gets. I had a project in mind to create and “manufacture” clay pendants for a huge music and dance festival that I will be attending, as a give – away (burning man). Keith showed me every step of the way with great patience and enthusiasm. While working there I observed him working on his own pieces which are indeed beautiful. I also observed him teaching two young women to throw on the wheel. I wish I had Keith teach me originally, how to throw, as his instruction was the best I have seen. I would recommend Yay Clay for any clay experience, from romantic date for two, to birthday parties, to personal projects. Keith is just plain terrific. (and the music is great!)
Yay Clay is one of the newest and most deserving additions to the always-impressive Best of Philly list.
Owner Keith is an incredibly patient teacher, whose teaching style is clear, enthusiastic and inspires confidence in even the most neurotic student (um… yeah, that’s me. ) Not only did my mom and I go from zero-to-“you made a thing! a real thing!”, Keith explained every part of the process and materials in a way that was interesting and engaging, and set the precedent for us to begin to establish good technique, skills and practices.
Keith is the most qualified instructor I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. I was a sculpture major in college and his knowledge of the craft along with his ceramic, glazing and firing skills are extraordinary. He has a wonderful way of putting everyone he works with at ease.
The studio is fantastic with every tool you would ever need to use your creativity to the max. Love it!
