Glad to have done this experience! Make sure to read the email details on how to access the studio. The studio itself has remarkable decor! I was fascinated by every inch of the wall.
The classes are typically 2 hours but can be shorter if it’s a smaller group. You’re able to make whatever you want – mugs, plates, vases!
I learned so much and grew a new appreciation for pottery. Devin was super patient and knowledgeable. He helped our dreams come true!
After the class, you can pick up your piece 4 weeks later once the glaze is on and the piece is fired up in the kiln.
So thankful that my friend gifted me with a pottery class experience for my birthday! The entire experience was so much fun! The duration of the class was 2 hours and was led by an instructor who was patient and answered any questions that participants had about the process! He explained every detail and would jump in when I was struggling (which was often lol). Overall, great experience! I can’t wait to return!
Such a fun and different date night! We did a clay date and had the best time!!! Came on a Friday night and parking was easy. It’s also BYOB!!!
It was us and 4 other couples. Our instructor James was great. The whole room was a vibe and we had the best time making out pieces then decorating them!
Drove 1hour and 30 minutes just to visit YayClay! So so happy we did! It was my wifes birthday and she’s always wanted to try pottery. Hands down the best place. We’ve never done pottery before so we were a little nervous but the instructors were amazing! They take everything step by step. They work hands on with you as well so thats also a big help. Everything was just a 10/10. The different rooms were cool! We had the retro room and it was so cool to see everything they had. They had 2 free arcade games and a free claw machine. Plenty of photo ops. Tori and another young woman were very helpful today and informative. They made our first experience so memorable and so fun! Worth every penny and more! We will definitely be back! So if you’re second guessing it, JUST GO! BOOK IT! You wont regret it

How to turn clay from your yard into texture for your piece✨ I got really lucky with this clay. It has very little plasticity. I can carefully throw a cylinder, but I can’t stretch or collar it. I am still testing additives to make a plastic clay, but using it raw as a slip appeals to me.
The clay was dug in Bucks County, PA. It appears to be high in Iron and Manganese which gives it color, but limits its firing temperature
Testing Protocol: I dug the clay, mixed it into a watery slip, and filtered it through a window screen. I dried most of the moisture out in a cloth bag until it reached the normal consistency of plastic clay and made three small pinch pots. Each pot was placed into a high fire bowl and test fired to Cone 04, 5, 6, and 10 in an electric kiln. It is a nice red/orange at Cone 04 and stable up to Cone 5, but it gets really soft at Cone 6. It melted down completely at Cone 10 as I expected.
The slip was made with as little water as possible and a tiny amount (half a teaspoon) of Sodium Silicate. I applied it to Cone 6 clay at leather hard and got lucky. There was no cracking and it softened enough to smooth out sharp edges and give a slight sheen.
